Sensation of Phrases is a collaboratively driven inquiry about audience participation and the publics, fusing sculpture, choreography, performance and film. Sculptor Josefina Posch and movement artist Minna Elif Wendin developed and showed the work in various constellations and venues between 2014 and 2015. The project was initiated by the curators Cecilia Suhaid Gustafsson and Sarah Schmidt – GoldDigger Productions, within the framework of ReCreation who paired Wendin and Posch together. Neither of the artists had any previous knowledge about each other.
During the initial work process they discovered interesting connections and interactions/contrasts in their practices, such as their tactile non-text based research methods within their respective fields where the actual making is central and the importance of the room and the public presentation – – the meeting with the audience became a clear working method.
The movement revolves around mobility and rotation. The work glides into an investigation of time as a direction, where continuity is created through time that fades out. The sculptures as sensations of the body, cells, fibroblasts, surface/texture/material, time/aging, joints and movement. At the same time frozen in stillness and active as participating actors during the presentations where they interact with the movement artists.
The project was exhibited on a traditional stage, in an art gallery part of a performance festival, on a temporary stage during an art fair and in the public realm in a shopping mall.
